I find it strange that there is more pathos in homestucks fan-comics, fan art and fanfictions then there is in the actual comic.
In this way I feel like homestuck refuses to live up to it’s dramatic potential and instead frames every dramatic moments in overly aware self parody. Which irritates me to no end seeing as how good of a writer Hussie is, especially with character dialog.
Maybe it’s just the at it’s core homestuck refuses to be anything more then a comedy. And the shows or comics I really get invested in are the ones that either subvert, defy or transcend traditional genres.
And I mean as a medium homestuck does this, but as a narrative i’m getting very little out of it beyond comedy. Maybe I shouldn’t expect or want more then comedy but then, i’m not the only one. Why else would all this fan work exist that is purely based around the dramatic, tragic or emotional?
Maybe that’s just fandoms in general.
Still, i’ll revoke full judgement until the comic is finished.
